My site visits for my Psychiatry rotation were with Dr. Saint Martin. For my first site visit, I presented 1 H&P which dealt with a patient with both acute psychosis and potential underlying personality disorders. Dr. Saint Martin asked me questions about the medications I would give her, as well as about the categories of personality disorders, since I put multiple different disorders on my differential for the patient. For my second site visit, I did 2 more H&P’s, as well as an article summary and pharm cards. My first H&P was a case of depression and illness anxiety disorder, and my other one was a case very consistent with borderline personality disorder. My article discussed the use of trazodone as a treatment for depression. Dr. Saint Martin was helpful in teaching with his challenging questions and his explanations about different medications to prescribe.
For this rotation, I also got to do site visits with Summer, Dana, and Spogmay, who were in psychiatry CPEP at QHC. It was interesting to hear their cases and their perspectives and experiences in the CPEP, as compared to my experiences on the inpatient unit, which were quite different.
Overall, I learned a lot during my two Psychiatry site visits!
