I had 2 site visits with Shu Qui, who is also my main preceptor and a General Surgery PA. I really enjoyed having my site visits with her for my last rotation, since she is very thorough and gave me important pointers on what to include in my H&P’s. For my first H&P I presented a patient with acute cholecystitis/ sepsis. She was helpful in guiding me towards important information to add, such as years they had each medical illness for, since it could affect their outcome, importance of trending vitals to see how they change, etc. She also taught me how to calculate IV fluid requirements and outputs, which I found very helpful. I also presented 5 pharm cards, which were relevant to surgery, and she explained to me the importance of including renal dosing. For my second site visit, I presented a patient with Fournier Gangrene, and she explained to me the proper way to document certain specific types of exams, which was very helpful. I also presented pharm cards and an article comparing vacuum assisted wound closure to traditional wound closure for Fourniers gangrene. My third case was a patient with renal hemmorhage due to angiomyolipoma. Overall, I really enjoyed my site visits with Shu, and she really taught me a lot.
